Fashion show with Orang Ulu beads, traditional accessories on September 11 in Miri
MIRI (September 4): Persatuan Wanita Orang Ulu Miri (PWOUM) will hold a “Beading Fashion Show” in conjunction with a “2022 Malaysia Day Dinner” here this September 11.
The event will take place in the ballroom of the Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club, and the ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.
According to PWOUM President Kijan Toynbee, this show will highlight the traditional accessories of Orang Ulu, especially their famous beads.
“We will not only be showing off the many beautiful beaded accessories that we traditionally wear, but there will also be handicrafts of all kinds for guests to purchase later during dinner,” she said in a statement.
At the dinner, Kijan said it would serve as a place for the Orang Ulu community to come together and celebrate Malaysia Day not only with their families, but also with friends of other races.
“As Malaysia Day is fast approaching (September 16), this dinner will provide us with a venue to celebrate the occasion in the spirit of ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ (Malaysian family).
“The Covid-19 pandemic has taught us many things, but the most obvious is that we are always ready and caring for each other, regardless of our race and religion.
“It is therefore fitting that we celebrate our unity in diversity on this Malaysia Day.”
He is informed that Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin is expected to officiate at the event.
