I’m an interior design expert and your home says a LOT about your personality – I know if you’re a socialite or a typical mum
MANY of us take pride in our homes and not only want them to look great, but also want them to show our personality.
Swoon, the UK’s leading online designer furniture brand, consulted their design experts to find out what trending fabrics and textiles reveal about your personality.
From satin to suede, there are hundreds of textiles and textures to choose from, and each fabric you use in your home can reveal a lot about you.
According to interior design professionals, whether your home is full of velvet, linen, corduroy, bouclé or yarn, they can say a lot about you.
Experts know whether you like to be the center of attention or are more of a humble homebody, it all depends on the materials found in your home.
Plus, interior experts can see if you’re a typical mum in the group or if you’re a hip hipster.
Velvet – ‘the socialite’
According to the experts at Swoon, if you have velvet in your home, you are a social person who is the fun of the party.
The experts explained, “If you’re a fun-loving 20-something who’s very outgoing (or at least still partying!), velor is your fabric of choice.
“Bold, fiery and chic – crushed velvet exudes luxurious and cocktail vibes, after all, you like to be the center of attention.”
Lin – ‘the mother’
If flax is more your thing, it turns out that you’re usually the mother of the bunch and like to go to bed early.

The experts continued: “Whether you have kids, four-legged friends or are just the mother of the group of friends, we bet you like to wind down in bed early at night after a long day.
“And what better fabric for relaxing than linen?
“If you want to replicate the on-trend ‘Coastal Grandma’ style or just love a minimalist, natural aesthetic, linen is the perfect fabric to take your current interior to the next level.”
Corduroy – ‘the hipster’
But if your house is full of corduroy, you’re probably a hipster.
The experts said, “You’re cool, and you know it.
“You listened to this popular artist before he was famous, and most of your clothes have had more than one owner. We get it.
“We bet you have corduroy in your wardrobe, but did you know you can incorporate it into your abode too?
“With its distinctive cord pattern, this fabric stands out, but not in an obvious way – just like you.”
Buckle – ‘the trendsetter’
If loop is more your style, interior experts would describe you as a typical trendsetter.
They added: ‘You’re all about trends and staying on top – from styles straight off the catwalk to vintage chic pieces from bygone eras.
“Since you’re still on top with the nation’s current obsessions, we can only guess you already have this fashionable fabric in your abode. Yes, we’re talking loop.
“This organic curly fiber fabric is all the rage right now, infusing modern and cozy vibes into any space.”
Yarn – ‘the homebody’
Finally, if you are currently in your living room, with wire not far away, the experts would see you as a humble homebody.
The experts at Swoon concluded: “You are probably reading this from the comfort of your living room – candles are lit, Netflix is on, a freshly cooked dish is bubbling in the oven – you are a homebody.
“You appreciate nothing more than an evening playing board games with your loved ones, enjoying each other’s company in the comfort of your own home.
“With that in mind, the fabric most suited to your personality, unsurprisingly, is humble and simple yarn.
“This spun yarn is durable and has an organic aesthetic that would fit perfectly into your unassuming, homey abode.”
