Let Selena Gomez in ‘Only Murders In The Building’ Be Your Fall Style Inspiration
There’s no shortage of New York style inspiration in the pop culture canon. There’s Carrie Bradshaw in her John Galliano newspaper dress and Manolo Blahniks. Audrey Hepburn in her little black dress and pearls in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Ali MacGraw’s so seventies trench coats in Love story. I would humbly suggest another: Selena Gomez in Only murders in the building.
We first meet Gomez’s character, Mabel, as she walks down the street on the Upper West Side. She wears a yellow sweater layered under a mustard faux fur coat, round sunglasses, plaid pants and a pair of lace-up boots. On his head? A yellow beanie and a pair of cherry red Beats headphones. (A key accessory, every New York woman knows, for fixing everything from construction noise to cat calls.)
As the show progresses, Mabel starts a true crime podcast about her neighbor’s murder with fellow residents Steve Martin and Martin Short. All the while, she wears a remarkable array of fall pieces. There she is, chasing a suspect in green faux fur by Proenza Schouler, or touring an art gallery in a sheer Dries Van Noten coat. Around her apartment building, the Arconia, she wears an array of chic knitwear from classic black turtlenecks to argyle.
Then there are the boots: flat, black and usually ankle length, by Giuseppe Zanotti or Re/Done. (In season one, a shoe highlight was Stella McCartney’s muted yellow Chelseas.)
